Big Night Out for Local Achievers
Donna won the Tasmanian Institute of Sport female athlete of year award.
I am happy to be one of seven Australian athletes whose progress towards the Olympic Games will be followed as part of the Mitsubishi ‘Bound for Beijing’ innovation. I am in very good company, with Sally McLellan (Athletics - 100m hurdles), Kate Hollywood (Hockey), Kenrick Monk (Swimming), Steve Hooker (Athletics – Pole Vault), Erin Phillips (Basketball) and Katie Mactier (Cycling) the other featured athletes. Stories will appear in all the major News Limited newspapers around the country as well as on the website, which will also have diary entries, videos and photographs.
The Beijing Bound website can be found on the Herald Sun website or at the following address http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/indepth/section/0,,5016505,00.html
It had been one year since I’d raced over 5km and 800m on the track, but at the Tasmanian Championships in Hobart this weekend it was a nice change. Actually, the 5km wasn’t overly pleasant- in 30 degree heat I covered the first kilometre in just under 3 minutes. That felt okay but I slowed down considerably over the next 10 laps! The 800 metres was better, but my best effort was in the 4*400 metre relay. It’s a shame I’m not fast enough to be a sprinter. I start another hard training block this week but I’m ready for it. All the recent racing has given me a good rest.
