How to write to Australian athletes in Beijing

Posted under Races and Results

Australia Post will be delivering mail to Australian athletes in the Olympic village during the Games.  This initiative is open to everyone.  Schools can register online to receive pre-addressed envelopes for their students.  There is more information (and prizes to be won) on the website.
Go to http://www.auspost.com.au/letterlink.
I am counting on at least two letters (or pictures) from my children!
You can also send emails to donna@donnamacfarlane.com.au

Olympic Accreditation

Posted under Races and Results

I received my official Olympic accreditation in the mail today.  It’s exciting- it has photo ID and is security encrypted, and details the Olympic areas I can access, such as the main dining hall, the village and the athlete transport system.   The card will also act as my visa into China.   I must remember to bring it!

Launceston Ten: 3 degrees (7 maximum!)

Posted under Races and Results

For the second year, I placed second in the Launceston Ten event- in 34.08.  I was really happy with the result, because it wasn’t much slower than last year’s time and I didn’t feel too well this morning.  I maintained the same pace throughout the race and moved into 2nd place with 2 kilometres to go.  The support and encouragement from the crowd and other runners was fantastic.  I love being a Tasmanian athlete and running at home.

Launceston 10km this weekend

Posted under Races and Results

I’m feeling good again- I’m over jetlag and feel renewed and excited about the coming weeks.  I had a solid training week in Hobart and I’m very grateful to the guys from another training group who have been helping me through my track sessions.  I will race over 10 km this weekend in Launceston, in Tasmania’s north.  I ran there last year, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much I have improved.  It can dip below 0 degrees early morning in Launceston… that can make breathing a challenge so it won’t be that different from Beijing after all.

Times of Olympic Races

Posted under Races and Results

I’ve just looked up the schedule of my steeplechase event at the Olympics.  There will be several heats- they start at 8.25 pm (local Beijing time) on Friday, 15th August- the first evening of athletics at the Games.   Australia is two hours ahead of China, so it’s not too late for most people to watch, at 10.25pm.  The final will be held on Sunday 17th August at 9.30pm in Beijing (11.30pm AUS time).  It will still be hot and humid at that time, but preferable to the midday sun.

Nice to be Home

Posted under Races and Results

I’m almost used to being home again- the cold weather, the housework and the fact that it’s dark before 6 o’clock.  The good thing is, I am finally remembering to drive on the left hand side of the road again.  It’s been great to see my training group again and my hard training resumes this week.  When I’m not training, I am busy trying to catch up on a heap of mail and phone calls.  My list of things to do is daunting and I hope my family and friends are understanding!

Home Again

Posted under Races and Results

I have just returned to Tasmania with my family, after almost six weeks of training and racing overseas.  It is really good to be home, although Hobart’s maximum of 10 degrees was a harsh welcome.  I need to find my gloves!  I will take things easy this week, before charging into the final four weeks of training before I leave for the Olympics.
