Races and Results I’m feeling much better now. I travel to Berlin this weekend with my husband. We are very lucky and grateful to all our family and friends who are putting themselves out to make this trip possible for us. For that reason alone it’s important we enjoy the experience. As our children are staying at home this time, it is a massive effort to organise life in our absence. Let’s just say the final child care timetable has been released and distributed.

Races and Results I knew my children were both sick and I’d been feeling lethargic all week, but I still expected to run well in the Launceston 10. Then I got a bad headache and the plan was in trouble. I managed to run 10km but around 2 minutes slower than last year (35.51). Every step hurt my head, but not as much as knowing how far back in the field I was! This next week will be a concentrated recovery effort to get back to top health in time for my next steeple race.

Races and Results Even though I qualified for the World Championships and was named in the team in March, I still had to run at least a ‘B’ qualifier to prove I was in good shape before I could be allowed in the Championships village. It’s not easy to do that when I’m not racing in Europe and there are no steeple races at home. I did a time trial on my own in Hobart last Saturday, (getting under the B standard by 0.4 of a second). It was freezing…I could see the snow on Mount Wellington and the water jump made my feet go numb! My next steeple will be in Queensland in a couple of weeks.

Races and Results It’s been a good week. Apart from the constant rain (which has made the local ovals impossible to run on) the days are getting slightly longer and a bit warmer (12 degrees today- yay!). One of my loyal training partners, Ryan Foster returned from the US for a short holiday, and I caught up with him after almost a year. I saw a bit more of him than I’d planned, courtesy of the nude 400 metre run at his 21st birthday party- I was only one of the spectators! We did a training session this week and it felt like the good old days.
This Friday I’m going to take part in a 3000 metre race on the track with some of the local guys. I’m interested to see how fast I can run. (I’m sure Athletics Australia is too!)
